THE DIFFERENCES OF SPEAKING ANXIETY ACROSS ACADEMIC LEVELS AND GENDER

Speaking anxiety poses a crucial challenge for university-level students during their speaking classes. This study aims to investigate the differences in English levels according year level and gender at University of Islam Malang explore potential causes that contribute levels. used quantitative approach employed causal-comparative descriptive design. Data were collected by using 31-item FLSAS questionnaire. The subjects freshmen sophomores which took an intensive course public course. One hundred fifteen completed questionnaire online. data analyzed independent t-test analysis. findings revealed no statistically significant difference was found between sophomores. Both groups exhibited moderate levels, approaching high level. Besides, terms gender, this did not find results among female male students, but there are sophomore students. also investigated factors affecting anxiety, including competitiveness, perfectionism, lack confidence, physical mental avoidance, fear failure, eagerness participate All these identified exerted influence, except demonstrated impact.
